| Description | Amgueddfa Cymru holds archaeological material from some of Monmouthshire’s best surviving castles. Site clearances during the 1920s and 1930s, and excavations in the 1950s, uncovered artefacts from White Castle, Grosmont and Skenfrith. They included large quantities of medieval pottery. Over many decades, ceramic specialists have studied the pottery to understand how, when and where it was made. They have identified a range of different vessel types as well as wares associated with particular regions. This information helps archaeologists better understand patterns of trade and consumption. This collection was showcased at the 2016 National Eisteddfod as part of Amgueddfa Cymru's contribution to the Lle Hanes stand. |
