Requesting a copy of the instruction sent to Sir Nicholas Lawes particularly relating to the passing of Acts for laying duties on 'negroes' as the substance of that instruction has not been included in the draft of the instructions for the Duke of Portland who has been appointed governor of Jamaica in place of Sir Nicholas. They have been informed by their agents in Jamaica 'that new impositions are laid upon all 'negroes' imported into as well as exported from that island which will greatly affect them in carrying on the Assiento' ['slave trade monopoly'].
